Cyclodextrins (CDs) are cyclic oligosaccharides formed by α-1,4 glycosidic bonds, typically consisting of 6, 7, or 8 D-glucopyranose units, known as α-, β-, and γ-cyclodextrins, respectively. CDs feature a truncated cone-shaped cylindrical structure with a hydrophobic inner cavity, a hydrophilic outer surface, and localized chiral environments. Their cavities can encapsulate various organic and inorganic small molecules to form inclusion complexes, enhancing the stability and solubility of active ingredients.
Silymarin is a natural flavonolignan complex derived from Silybum marianum (Milk Thistle).
