Cyclodextrins (CDs) are cyclic oligosaccharides formed by α-1,4 glycosidic bonds, typically consisting of 6, 7, or 8 D-glucopyranose units, known as α-, β-, and γ-cyclodextrins, respectively. CDs feature a truncated cone-shaped cylindrical structure with a hydrophobic inner cavity, a hydrophilic outer surface, and localized chiral environments. Their cavities can encapsulate various organic and inorganic small molecules to form inclusion complexes, enhancing the stability and solubility of active ingredients.
Grapefruit peel is rich in free and glycosylated flavonoids, mainly consisting of flavanones, including Naringin, Neohesperidin, Naringenin-7-O-rutinoside, and other flavonoid compounds. Among these, Naringin is the predominant component, accounting for over 80% of the total flavonoid content.
