Okra (Hibiscus esculentus), also known as Abelmoschus, Kidney Tonic Herb, is an annual herbaceous plant belonging to the Malvaceae family and Abelmoschus genus, originally native to tropical Africa.
Its tender fruits are rich in various bioactive components, including proteins, unsaturated fatty acids, minerals, alkaloids, free amino acids, and mucilaginous substances. Studies have shown that the unique mucilage contained in okra can be used to prepare Lepidimoide (LM). Lepidimoide is a plant-derived signaling substance similar to natural hormones, which regulates various physiological responses in plants and belongs to a new class of plant hormone-promoting interaction compounds.
The mucilaginous components of okra have been traditionally recognized for their nourishing and conditioning properties. Okra is known as “Plant Viagra” in some Western countries and “Green Ginseng” in Japan due to its nutritional value and traditional wellness applications.
Meihujian® AE 100-H is extracted from fresh okra fruits, with okra polysaccharides as its main active component.
